Resurrection Sunday!

Posted by Godefroi on April 4, 2010

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen…”

He Is NOT HERE!!

Hallelujah!!

FAN-TAS-TIC!

Posted by Godefroi on March 23, 2010

The Hill is breaking the news that we all knew was coming anyway.

Liberal caucus leader will introduce new public option bill

A leader of the House liberals’ caucus said Monday she’ll introduce new legislation to revive the public option.

Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.), the co-chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said she plans to unveil legislation to add the government-run option to the national healthcare exchange established by legislation President Barack Obama is to sign tomorrow.

All they have to do now is back-door it into an omnibus appropriations bill (like was done with the ThoughtCrime bill), and the fat lady will have hit her high note.  Show’s over, nothing left to do but weep for America.

Pondering

Posted by Godefroi on March 21, 2010

Let’s say I have $20 in each of four pants pockets – Left Hip, light bill; Right Hip, water bill; Left Front, gas bill; Right Front, groceries.

Now, I’ve got my eye on a double-CD set of William Shatner’s Greatest Love Songs for the BARGAIN price of $20, but I can’t get it because all my money is already allocated.

Along comes my BFF and yours, Barry Gubmunt.  “Here…” he says.  “Here’s $20 for you, just one thingyou’re not allowed to spend it on Shatner!”

So I think about this a minute…and here’s what I’m going to do.  I’m going to take that cash from BG, and put $5 in each of my pants pockets, and at the same time, I’m going to take $5 from each of those pockets and put it in my Shirt pocket (“mad money” fund).

Smiling, I walk down to the RecordPalooza and pick up my new treasure.

So…did Barry help me buy that CD, or not???

On Democracy

Posted by Godefroi on March 18, 2010

From Merriam-Webster:

Function: noun

Inflected Form(s): plural de·moc·ra·cies
Etymology: Middle French democratie, from Late Latin democratia, from Greek dēmokratia, from dēmos + -kratia -cracy
And from Wikipedia:
Democracy is a political government carried out either directly by the people (direct democracy) or by means of elected representatives of the people (Representative democracy). The term is derived from the Greek: δημοκρατία – (dēmokratía) “rule of the people”,[1] which was coined from δῆμος (dêmos) “people” and κράτος (krátos) “power“…
“RULE OF [or “by”] THE PEOPLE”…”PEOPLE POWER”
Question of the day: Why is it that so many who are affiliated with, or have affinity for, the Democratic Party support Government’s “Rule OVER the People?”

QOTD – How big is 1.9 trillion

Posted by Godefroi on February 5, 2010

An hour is a relatively short amount of time.  10 hours is a normal workday for me.  16 hours is a tiresomely long workday.  24 hours is, of course, a standard Day.  A week is comprised of 168 hours.  Average month is 720, and a year is 8766 (including the 1/4 day that we only count every so often).

The Obama-Pelose-Reid unholy triad just upped the Government’s borrowing limit by $1.9 Trillion dollars….the largest debt limit increase in U.S. history.

The tie-in is the QOTD, courtesy of the AP.

“1.9 trillion hours ago, or almost 220 million years ago, dinosaurs were just beginning to dominate the Earth.”

Let me put that another way.  I’ll be 41 years old in just a few days…that means that I was born 359,406 hours ago (give or take).  Put that in TRILLIONS, we get 0.00000036 trillion hours.  If you’re 40-ish, think about how many HOURS you’ve lived…jeez, just think about how many hours you’ve wasted…and compare that to the QOTD.  Even if you’re not a math genius, that number is staggering.

Looking at it another way, fmr President Bush and the attendant Congress spent money like a drunken sailor, a statement with which nearly everyone – Right and Left – would agree.  President Obama now wants to increase that by 270%, to an unprecedented level, in order to institute programs and policies which history has shown numerous times to be ineffective at best, lethal at worst.

So…at this point I’ve blathered such that I can’t recall my point of intent (I bet being up for 23 hours doesn’t help)…but what I want to say right now is this:  Mr. President, PLEASE learn a history lesson, and STOP trying to spend us out of our current slowdown.  While you and Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid tend to characterize your collectively proposed profligacy as “investment’, both history and human nature should show you that these massive expenditures are as wise as setting all of that cash on fire.  Entitlements breed dependency which breeds need for more entitlements, ad infinitum.  Excesive taxation breeds evasion which breeds government’s need for higher taxation, again ad infinitum.  You’re so enamored with “sustainability”…how about we focus on a sustainable economy?  The path you’ve chosen to pursue leads only, and inexorably, to ruin.

What else is there to say, but God Help Us All.

OBAMA ON TUESDAY: “Even as we have had to spend our way out of this recession in the near term, we have begun to make the hard choices necessary to get our country on a more stable fiscal footing in the long run.”

OBAMA, LAST WEEK: “We are under no illusion that somehow the federal government can spend its way out of this recession…”—Remarks at a White House jobs forum

Stupid Obama Advisor of the Day

Posted by Godefroi on October 9, 2009

President Barack Obama’s adviser on Muslim affairs [excuse me, why do we have one of these?], Dalia Mogahed said on the Islam Channel [the what?!?] program Muslimah Dilemma earlier this week:

even many Muslims associated Sharia with “maximum criminal punishments” and “laws that… to many people seem unequal to women,” but added: “Part of the reason that there is this perception of Sharia is because Sharia is not well understood and Islam as a faith is not well understood.”

Let me boil that down.  Many Muslims have a negative opinion of Sharia because they don’t understand Sharia and Islam.  Got that?  Many Muslims don’t understand Islam.

That’s fantastic advice for her to pass on to Mr. Obama.  I hope he includes that tidbit in his next pandering speech to “the Muslim world”.

Oh yeah – full article at Daily Telegraph.

Meaningless

Posted by Godefroi on October 9, 2009

A once-respected award for humanitarianism has now lost all meaning.

Nobel Peace Prize Is Awarded to President Obama

Oct. 9 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” the Nobel Committee said.

Three former U.S. Presidents have won the Nobel Peace Prize.  Jimmy Carter won this prize after more than a decade of international activism, misguided though it may have been.  Woodrow Wilson for creating the League of Nations (at least he had an accomplishment).  Teddy Roosevelt after he negotiated the end of the Russo-Japanese War (again, something actually accomplished).

One has to wonder if Jagland’s affiliation with Social Democrats had any bearing on this.  Hmmm.

What has Obama actually DONE to win this prize?

“The Nobel Committee has in particular looked at Obama’s vision and work toward a world without atomic weapons,” Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the five-member Nobel committee said in an interview broadcast on Norway’s TV2 today. “Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics.”

In short, he’s done NOTHING.  He’s made a few speeches – WOW – which as of yet have accomplished nothing.  Even the nuclear arsenal over which he has command is still undiminished.

And the vaunted “vision and work” and “extraordinary efforts”?  It’s all occurred since he took office less than 9 months ago.

Pitiful.  Pathetic.  Worthless.  Meaningless.

Update: K. Carpenter shows us how far back this actually goes.  Not only was Obama nominated LESS THAN TWO WEEKS into office, but the nomination invitations were sent out way back in September of 2008.  Good Grief!

Update 2: Jim Geraghty weighs in

Let Me Be Clear: We Must Credit Obama For His Accomplishments

There are no longer any U.S. forces in Iraq; the war there is over.

Afghanistan is finally stabilized, with the populace reassured and President Karzai’s public trust reinvigorated by free and fair elections.

Israelis and Palestinians are finally working together to build a lasting peace.

Through our forthright and clear denunciation of brutality, the Iranian protesters have had their fraudulent election canceled and true democracy is celebrated by every young man and young woman in the streets of Tehran.

The Guantanamo Bay prison is closed.

Through our diplomatic nudging, China has made great strides in its treatment of dissent, and the Dalai Lama is recognized by every world leader as a great man of wisdom.

Eastern Europeans in places like Poland and the Czech Republic sleep easily, no longer worried about the nefarious ambitions of the Russian bear.

A crisis in Honduras has been averted through the measured, deliberate effort of the administration.

No one in Asia worries about North Korean missiles any longer.

Pakistan is stabilized, and their citizens are reaching out to India in places like Mumbai.

In Egypt, after Obama’s speech, the government has never spent more time paying attention to dissenters like the Muslim Brotherhood.

Finally, the potential chaos from a global recession has been averted, as the U.S. economy has come roaring back to lead the world to new prosperity.

Come on, folks. With a record like that, Obama was a shoo-in.

Heh!

The most anti-Israel president ever

Posted by Godefroi on September 24, 2009

Shamelessly stolen from Meryl Yourish at Hot Air’s Green Room.

Here’s the intro:

President Barack Obama didn’t just apologize for the Bush years in his speech to the UN yesterday. He delivered what is probably the most anti-Israel speech ever given by a sitting president.

Once again, he used the argument that there is some kind of moral equivalency between Israeli settlements and Palestinian incitement. If you dig just a little, you find that “incitement” includes the Palestinian Authority’s refusal to have a single map of Israel in its textbooks, its constant Jew-hatred in its official media, statements, and even sermons, its referrals to “Palestine from the river to the sea” (that would be where Israel is currently), and the utter refusal by the Obama administration to note that the PA reinforced its anti-Israel charter and also added more anti-Israel conspiracy theories, such as the one that Israel poisoned Yasser Arafat.

And an additional excerpt on which I MUST comment.

The time has come — the time has come to re-launch negotiations without preconditions that address the permanent status issues: security for Israelis and Palestinians, borders, refugees, and Jerusalem. And the goal is clear: Two states living side by side in peace and security — a Jewish state of Israel, with true security for all Israelis; and a viable, independent Palestinian state with contiguous territory that ends the occupation that began in 1967, and realizes the potential of the Palestinian people. (Applause.)

Comment: Hey Ob-Asshole, learn a little history.  Here’s the property description of the territory for the Jewish National Home that the entire League of Nations approved (after, of course, the creation of Arab Palestine – you know, that state for those stateless Palestinians that supposedly does not exist):

Briefly stated, the boundaries are as follows:
North. – From Ras en Naqura on the Mediterranean eastwards to a point west of Qadas, thence in a northerly direction to Metulla, thence east to a point west of Banias.
East. – From Banias in a southerly direction east of Lake Hula to Jisr Banat Ya’pub, thence along a line east of the Jordan and the Lake of Tiberias and on to El Hamme station on the Samakh-Deraa railway line, thence along the centre of the river Yarmuq to its confluence with the Jordan, thence along the centres of the Jordan, the Dead Sea and the Wadi Araba to a point on the Gulf of Aqaba two miles west of the town of Aqaba, thence along the shore of the Gulf of Aqaba to Ras Jaba.
South. – From Ras Jaba in a generally north-westerly direction to the junction of the Neki-Aqaba and Gaza Aqaba Roads, thence to a point west-north-west of Ain Maghara and thence to a point on the Mediterranean coast north-west of Rafa.
West. – The Mediterranean Sea.

Which means: it’s ALL ISRAEL…GAZE, JUDEA, SAMARIA, ALL OF IT…THEREFORE THERE IS NO OCCUPATION

Jackass

I’ll leave it to you to read the rest at Hot Air.

Not a Chance

Posted by Godefroi on September 16, 2009

Of success, that is.

An Israeli NGO that I had never heard of prior to today is threatening legal action in (or against?) the Obama administration for failure to live up to the treaties that established the borders of Israel (or rather, the borders of Jewish Palestine from the Mandate period).  Israel National News has the story.

(IsraelNN.com) Members of the non-governmental group (NGO) “Justice Now!” claim that U.S. President Barack Obama’s policy against Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria violates internationally recognized treaties, and they are threatening to take legal action.

Justice Now! reported it has gathered the evidence necessary to file a case in the United States against the U.S. government’s “continued violations of the treaties that recognize Israel’s rights to its internationally recognized legal borders, the prohibition against ceding any land belonging to the Jewish National Home, and supporting the right of Jewish settlement within those internationally recognized borders.”

Justice Now! aims to “educate the world” regarding the legal borders of the Jewish national home, which it says comprises all Israel, including all of Judea, Samaria, the Gaza Strip, the entire city of Jerusalem, and more.

These borders were recognized by the United States in a 1924 treaty with Great Britain, the group explains, and they are still guaranteed by that treaty. Furthermore, the U.S. Constitution calls a treaty the “Supreme Law of the Land” and the Courts have the power to force the federal executive branch (President, Secretary of State, etc.) to honor treaties. Justice Now! says it may seek a court ruling to compel the U.S. government to recognize Israel’s sovereignty through all of the borders expressed within the Balfour, San Remo, and Mandate documents.

Letter to Obama
Justice Now! says it intends to send a letter to the Obama administration urging it to respect Israel’s rights under international law to settle and build within all of the lands of the Jewish homeland.

Given what we’ve seen from this administration regarding Israel, I predict there is NO WAY IN HELL the group’s efforts will bear any fruit, even though they are right.

Flight 93 Blogburst: The Interview

Posted by Godefroi on September 14, 2009

Burnett radio interview about 9/11 and the Flight 93 memorial

Blogburst logo, petition

Tom Burnett Sr. and his wife Beverly did some 9/11 interviews the last couple of days, remembering their son Tom Jr., who was murdered by Islamic terrorists aboard Flight 93. Mr. Burnett has been trying for several years to stop the Park Service from planting a giant Islamic-shaped crescent on the Flight 93 crash site. In their interview with WSAU radio in Wisconsin, the Burnetts were joined half-way through the hour by Alec Rawls (the author of this blogburst post), who has written a book about the terrorist memorializing Crescent of Embrace design.

Mr. Burnett’s words are always heartfelt, yet marked by a constant scrupulousness. Emotion never carries him to utter a word beyond what he actually has grounds to assert. Highly recommended listening, perhaps especially for those who are better at judging people than facts. Let’s face it, show some people the Mecca-orientation of the giant crescent, and they just aren’t sure what they are looking at. Point out that the central feature of every mosque is a Mecca-direction indicator, and somehow the pieces don’t fall together in their brains:

What is that? Just a mysterious diagram to some.

Yet these folks can still be good judges of character. So judge the Burnetts. The WSAU interview begins with host Pat Snyder asking Mr. Burnett if America is doing enough as a nation to remember 9/11. Most of us, on being asked any question, will try to answer it, but Mr. Burnett immediately defers, and in the most polite way:

Well, I’m not a very good judge of that. We are tucked away here in the southeast corner of Minnesota…

But if he isn’t interested in passing judgment on how much America should do to remember 9/11, he is very concerned that we don’t honor the wrong people, and starts right in on the Flight 93 memorial (which Mr. Snyder puts off to later).

Both the Burnetts have a sophisticated understanding of American liberty. Talking about the generosity of Americans towards each other and the world, Beverly notes the change that has taken place in her lifetime, where assistance used to be all private, but now the government has gotten involved. She passes no explicit judgment on this development, but just notes what should remain constant (at 17:22):

I think about all the programs we have in the government. I come from a different generation, and my mother and father, and Tom’s, that we never really looked to the government all the time. We looked to our neighbors and churches and friends for things. But our government should be there to make sure we’re SAFE.

Instead, as Tom and Bev both note, our elites don’t even want to acknowledge that it was Muslim terrorists who attacked us on 9/11.

It is these same elites who don’t want to acknowledge the Islamic symbol-shapes in the Flight 93 memorial. To witness this symbolism would be to tie Islam to 9/11, which to these people is some unconscionable bigotry, regardless of the truth. There is the rub. As Mr. Burnett put it (at 25:16):

All we want–Alec, and the thousands of Americans who back us–we want the truth. What happened? [How did we end up with an Islamist design?] And we want to honor the 40 people. I don’t want anything to do with the Islamic fanatics, anything at all.

Mr. and Mrs. Burnett are very thoughtful, careful, rational people. So who is it who is “too far out”? People like the Burnetts, who are skeptical that the architect of a memorial to Flight 93 could plant a giant crescent and star flag on the crash site by mistake? Or is it the people who somehow convince themselves that a crescent and star flag is just fine, so long as we can’t prove that it is intentional?

Actually, we CAN prove that the Islamic symbolism is intentional. Architect Paul Murdoch does not want history to be able to deny his achievement, so he included extensive redundant proofs of intent, such as the following. Murdoch says the crescent comes from the terror attacks breaking the circle (leaving only the giant Islamic-shaped crescent still standing, hmmm). Remove the parts of the crescent that stick out past the point where the flight path (coming down from the upper left) symbolically breaks the circle, and what symbolically remains standing is a giant Islamic-shaped crescent pointing EXACTLY at Mecca.

The full Crescent of Embrace points 1.8° north of Mecca ± 0.1°. Remove the parts of the Entry Portal walls that extend past the flight path at the upper crescent tip and the remaining “true” or thematic crescent points exactly at Mecca, ± 0.1°.

All the supposed redesign did was add an extra arc of trees that explicitly represents a broken off part of the circle, leaving Murdoch’s circle-breaking crescent-creating theme completely intact. The unbroken part of the circle, what symbolically remains standing in the wake of 9/11, is still a precisely Mecca-oriented crescent, the centerpiece for the world’s largest mosque.
