Perspective

Thomas Friedman makes a fine point in this op-ed at NYT.

When Pakistanis and other Muslims are willing to take to the streets, even suffer death, to protest an insulting cartoon published in Denmark, is it fair to ask [yes – GdB]: Who in the Muslim world, who in Pakistan, is ready to take to the streets to protest the mass murders of real people, not cartoon characters, right next door in Mumbai?

After all, if 10 young Indians from a splinter wing of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party traveled by boat to Pakistan, shot up two hotels in Karachi and the central train station, killed at least 173 people, and then, for good measure, murdered the imam and his wife at a Saudi-financed mosque while they were cradling their 2-year-old son — purely because they were Sunni Muslims — where would we be today? The entire Muslim world would be aflame and in the streets.

Where is the outrage, indeed?

Yes I agree! There should have been a demonstration and protest. But why just the muslims, should’nt every human being, be as enraged at the gruesome terrorist event in mumbai. Why is the world pointing their fingers on the muslims, is it because the media keeps flashing the words TERRORISTS and ISLAMISTS on your screens at the same time every twenty seconds…. Why has this decade given birth to such big religious divides. A divide big enough to initiate a world war. Why kill the rabbi in mumbai. Was it meant to enrage the jews too. Just because the boat sailed from Pakistan, does not make them pakistanis…. this is politics, its not as clean as it seems. You’ve gotta look at the bigger picture…. the agenda.

The world is falling into the play of the ELITE few ruling this world, who laugh amongst themselves, as we are terrorised.

Tasha – thanks for the comment.

I think most everyone who knows about this atrocity is outraged…the point Mr. Friedman is making is that Muslims – especially in Pakistan for some reason – are rather famous for demonstrating vigorously to protest the slightest perceived insult to their religion, their holy book, or their prophet, including CARTOONS of all things. Now that real people have been killed, presumably in the name of their shared religion, WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?

I’ll concede the point that it’s not proven that these men were Pakistani. It certainly appears, however, that they were trained and armed in Pakistan – shouldn’t the populace at large decry this abominable use of their homeland?

And, just to be clear, the reason the world is pointing its collective finger at Muslims can be found here. There is no other group/sect to which so much indiscriminate violence can be attributed.

I’m curious who you believe the “elite few” may be who are ruling the world.
