Idiot’s Guide to Islam

Posted by Godefroi on July 18, 2008

DMARTYR (H/T) has alerted me to this site (apparently it’s both MuhammadsQuran and the Idiot’s Guide to Islam, and there’s some relationship to the site In The Name of Allah too).  I don’t know who runs it, but it contains much audio commentary on Islam and the Qur’an.  None of it complimentary (so far, at least).  All of by someone who has obviously studied the subject matter extensively, and is (of course) a native speaker of Arabic.

MuhammadsQuran

MuhammadsQuran

Click the image to go to the referenced page at the blog site…I don’t know how to get the code for the control to work here, which is probably just as well.
MUCH, MUCH food for thought.

More on the Theme

Posted by Godefroi on June 27, 2008

There has been an ongoing effort at genocide in Iraq.  It’s not what the Leftards would have you believe - that the warmongering U.S. and her Zionist puppetmasters are fomenting the destruction of Muslims.  Rather, it is at the hands of Muslims, and it is directed at Assyrians (foremost).

Who are the Assyrians?  Answer:

A semitic peoples indigenous to North Iraq; builders of the great Mesopotamian civilizations; ethnically distinct from Arabs and Jews (the other semitic peoples of the region).   They currently speak modern Assyrian (also known as neo-Syriac), which is the oldest extant language, and was the lingua franca of the Middle East until 900 A.D., when it was supplanted by Arabic (except among Assyrians).  Assyrians are Christians. They belong to three main Assyrian churches: 1) The Assyrian Church of the East (”Nestorian”), established in 33 A.D. by Theodos, Thomas, and Bartholomew; 2) the Syriac Orthodox Church (”Jacobite”), established in 450 A.D.; 3) the Chaldean Church of Babylon (Roman Catholic), established in 1552 A.D.  The majority of Assyrians live in their ancestral homeland, which is now part of Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey.

Why are they being persecuted?  From yesterday’s New York Times (believe it or not), comes an article which, while not exclusively addressing Assyrians, will give the reader the background requisite to understanding.

MOSUL, Iraq (NYT)— As priests do everywhere, Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho, the leader of the Chaldean Catholics in this ancient city, gathered alms at Sunday Mass. But for years the money, a crumpled pile of multicolored Iraqi dinars, went into an envelope and then into the hand of a man who had threatened to kill him and his entire congregation.

“What else could he do?” asked Ghazi Rahho, a cousin of the archbishop. “He tried to protect the Christian people.”

[...]

For more than 1,000 years, northern Iraq has been shared by people who for the most part believe and worship differently: Turkmen, Kurds, Yazidis, Sunni and Shiite Arabs, and Assyrian Christians — of whom the Chaldeans are the largest denomination. (The Chaldean Church, an Eastern Rite church, is part of the Roman Catholic Church, but maintains its own customs and liturgy.)

Since the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, Muslims in the Middle East permitted that diversity in part through a special tax on Jews and Christians. The tax was called a jizya — and that is the name with which the insurgents chose to cloak extortion, Mafia-style, from Christians.

Officials say the demands could be hundreds of dollars a month per male member of a household. In many cases, Christian families drained their life savings and went into debt to make the payments. Insurgents also raised money by kidnapping priests. The ransoms, often paid by the congregations, typically ran as high as $150,000, several priests and lay Christians said.

Jizya.  The point of the story above is that ArchBishop Rahho was killed for not paying the jizya.  If, by chance, you are unfamiliar with this term, we have available an explanation from Dr. Andrew BostomTHE TAX PAID IN LIEU OF BEING SLAIN.

Here is a classical formulation of the jizya—the cornerstone of the repressive system of jihad-imposed dhimmitude—from, coincidentally, a seminal Baghdadian jurist, al-Mawardi (d. 1058). In his monumental The Laws of Islamic Governance, al-Mawardi examined the regulations pertaining to the lands and infidel populations subjugated by jihad. This is the origin of the system of dhimmitude. The native infidel “dhimmi” (which derives from both the word for “pact”, and also “guilt”—guilty of religious errors) population had to recognize Islamic ownership of their land, submit to Islamic law, and accept payment of the Koranic poll tax (jizya)—the tax paid in lieu of being slain—based on Koran 9:29. Al- Mawardi notes that “The enemy makes a payment in return for peace and reconciliation… Reconciliation and security last as long as the pavment is made. If the pavment ceases, then the jihad resumes.”

The writings of the much lionized Sufi theologian and jurist al-Ghazali (d. 1111) highlight how the institution of dhimmitude was simply a normative, and prominent feature of the Shari’a:…the dhimmi is obliged not to mention Allah or His Apostle.. .Jews, Christians, and Majians must pay the jizya [poll tax on non-Muslims]…on offering up the jizya, the dhimmi must hang his head while the official takes hold of his beard and hits [the dhimmi] on the protruberant bone beneath his ear [i.e., the mandible]… They are not permitted to ostentatiously display their wine or church bells…their houses may not be higher than the Muslim’s, no matter how low that is. The dhimmi may not ride an elegant horse or mule; he may ride a donkey only if the saddle-work is of wood. He may not walk on the good part of the road. They [the dhimmis] have to wear [an identifying] patch [on their clothing], even women, and even in the [public] baths…[dhimmis] must hold their tongue.

Gentle reader, you ARE able to see the impetus for the persecution against, and attempted eradication of, Christians in Iraq, right?

It’s The Religion of Peace, Islam.  Islam, which must supplant or subjugate all other religio-political ideologies.  The same Islam that is creeping into and undermining the foundation of Western thought, politics, government and tradition.

Aside from wishing that everyone would “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and … be saved“, I don’t care who you worship.  But the ideology that espouses the humiliation or destruction of unbelievers at the hands of believers needs to be stopped.

Mo: the Movie

Posted by Godefroi on June 25, 2008

Bill Warner of Political Islam has done the math on the Sira, the biography(ies) of Muhammad (Ibn Ishaq, al-Tabari, and Ibn Sa’d).

Some findings:

  • There are 621 pages that describe the prophet period of Muhammad [this is just Ishaq, I believe]
  • only 12 pages in, the first Kafir blood is drawn
  • 98% of the text is devoted to violence (verbal included) against non-Muslims; there is peace for only 2%
  • 72% involves some form of jihad (starts at page 281, and continues for 409 more)
  • 5.3% of the text relates to the destruction of the Jews-assassinations, executions, rapes, torture and exile
  • If you add the verbal violence to the physical violence, the Sira is 8.6% Jew hatred

To put this in perspective, he takes a Hollywood approach.

If the Sira were a 2-hour movie of Mohammed as a prophet, it would go like this:

Mohammed has his first revelation in the first scene. The first fight starts 2 minutes into the movie. After that it is plotting, shouting, arguing, threatening and preaching. Even when the scene is in Mohammed’s camp, the backdrop is always the struggle with the kafirs. Then 34 minutes into the film, the first killing happens and killing continues for the next 1 ½ hours. Armed raids, assassinations, plots, spies, executions, torture, rape, battles, and on and on. Kafirs (non-Muslims) die and lose. Mohammed dies. Islam triumphs. End of film.

Contrast this story with another film, about one who was neither a murderer, nor a warlord, nor a pedophile or racist, yet also claimed to bring God’s message. Only one of them makes sense.

The Whitewash continues

Posted by Godefroi on June 4, 2008

I wrote several months ago about the inclnation - growing in popularity - to change the description of Islam-inspired Terrorism Anti-Islamic Behavior to something other than jihad, and correspondingly, those acting in this “Un-Islamic” way as something other than jihadi’s, mujahideen, etc. Not that anyone saw it, but if one did, one might recall the term hirabah.

I’ve now seen several posts at JW on this subject - that is, what to call these extremists militants uh, bad guys, beginning with this one from only 4 days ago (”Words matter”: Homeland Security rolls out newspeak campaign, cautions against use of terms like “jihadists,” “Islamic terrorists,” “Islamists” and “holy warriors”), culminating in this one today “Spencer: War On Terror Ends?”. In a nutshell, our enlightened leaders in Washington have decided, definitively now, that our use of these terms is actually giving legitimacy to the miscreants-we-can-not-name perpetrating acts-we-can-not-name.

What is this all about? First, Muslims are offended by “War on Terror” because they see it as a “War on ISLAM“. We’re only spending our precious security resources in surveilling Muslims (allegedly). The prisoners in Guantanamo…they’re all Muslims. It’s obvious, right? Second, as I mentioned above, we’re giving the world the impression - by our use of the same religion-couched terms that the terrorists use - that we agree that they’re justified, that they really ARE fighting for Allah and will be rewarded according to their heroic deeds. You see, Jihad is a GOOD thing in Islam…it just doesn’t mean what they (and we) are saying it means.

Let’s think about this (a novel concept, I know). If, in the last 7 years, more than 11,000 attacks on innocents had been committed by the International Fundy Church of Bob (with the bulk of those attacks being justified, in their minds, by their religious beliefs), isn’t it merely PRUDENCE that would suggest that the Bobbians be scrutinized more closely than the rest of the general public? And, what sense would it make (for US) to decide that TRUE Bobbians don’t act this way (the holy texts notwithstanding), and then to call the dastardly ones “Anti-Bobbians”, or perhaps Stevians? Their acts of defending and expanding the faith aren’t Bobardic, they’re just criminal - again, irrespective of a LONG history of similar behavior that at one time was just fine with all the Bobbian scholars, theologians, theorists, and practitioners…and still is in many parts of the world. If the American government, or British, or French, or Canadian, uses their terminology (these Bobarians), does that REALLY make these criminals more legitimate than they were before we started taking notice? Knowing, of course, that Bobbians have no use for the opinions of Cawfers (that’s non-believers to you uninitiated). If we start calling them Stevians, does that de-legitimize them to those who currently esteem these Bobardic martyrs? Good Grief, are we REALLY so self-important?

Look…they’re criminals, indisputably (at least by most Western laws). But not acknowledging the ideology that drives them is not helping in the fight against them. No one complains when we refer to Marxist or Maoist “rebels”. And if we refer to them that way, are we then saying that ALL Marxists or Maoists (or whatever) are violent thugs? Obviously not.

Someone who is overly sensitive of oblique criticism is usually insecure and/or trying to hide some vulnerability or shortcoming. Caving in to their demands for coddling their feelings does them no favors (it assists in keeping them away from facing, and dealing with, criticisms and consequently from improving and growing), and it minimizes LEGITIMATE security concerns among the rest of the populace.

As I said last time: Call a spade a spade, call a pirate a pirate, call a jihadist (one struggling for Allah, violently or otherwise) a jihadist. If you can’t name your enemy, you can’t know your enemy…and if you don’t know your enemy, you’re lost.

UPDATE:  Raymond Ibrahim over at American Thinker weighs in on this very topic.

Would a Jihadi by Any Other Name Smell as Foul?

[A] NYT article suggests that,

“If we want to say what we mean, what terms better describe [al] Qaeda members and other violent extremists? ‘Muharib’ or the more colloquial ‘hirabi’ or ‘hirabist’ would be good places to start. ‘Hirabah,’ the base word, is a term for barbarism or piracy. Unlike ‘jihad,’ which grants honor, ‘hirabah’ brings condemnation; it involves unlawful violence and disorder.”

Now, as a native Arabic speaker, I regret to say that usage of these terms — that is, Americans trying to be at once politically-correct and descriptive, in, of all languages, Arabic — is, alas, somewhat comedic.  I further suspect that Arabs, especially al-Qaeda types, would find it hilarious and consistent with their interpretations of wishy-washy Americans, who go to great lengths to learn a language only to censor themselves and compromise their precision in that same language, all so they can appear the “nice guy.”

Which leads to a final point: Arabs and Muslims are not waiting around for Americans or their government — that is, infidels — to define Islam for them, much less to confer Islamic legitimacy or condemnation on al-Qaeda through the use of subtle word-games.  Calling this or that a “hirabi” or “jihadi” is not about to make any great impression on them, since only an authoritative Islamic entity (e.g., Cairo’s al-Azhar university) is qualified to determine such matters. Thus the US government would do well to worry less about which words will better humor the Arab/Muslim world, and worry more about providing its citizenry with accurate and meaningful terminology.

Precisely!

Say Goodbye to England

Posted by Godefroi on May 29, 2008

A quote from the editorial of The Church of England Newspaper, 28 May 2008

If recent reports of trends in religious observance prove to be correct, then in some 30 years the mosque will be able to claim that, religiously speaking, the UK is an Islamic nation, and therefore needs a share in any religious establishment to reflect this….]

[...]

Charles Taylor’s new and classic work on the Secular Age charts the rise of the secular mindset and what he calls the ‘excarnation’ of Christianity as it is levered out of state policy and structures. Christianity is now regarded as bad news, the liberal elite’s attack developed in the 1960s took root in the educationalist empire, and to some extent even in areas of the church.

Today the Christian story is fading from public imagination, while Islam grows apace.

Somewhere, St. George is weeping.

But there’s hope elsewhere in Europe (though small hope) also from Brussels Journal.

A quote from Der Spiegel, 28 May 2008

On Wednesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party said it would like to see Germany do its part to help out. At a press conference in Berlin, parliamentarian Erika Steinbach, the CDU’s human rights spokeswoman, said her party wanted to see Germany accept thousands of Iraqi refugees. In particular, she said, the CDU wants to extend its welcoming hand to Iraqis who have suffered religious persecution in Iraq. In particular, that means the Christians. […]

I’m not holding my breath on the success of this one, however.

Letter from an American Wife (of a Muslim)

Posted by Godefroi on May 7, 2008

Nod: Islam Watch

It is true Muslims do beat their wives, if not with their hand, its with there strict ways and controlling habits.

I know for a fact that it is true because I am a young American woman and I am married to a Muslim man. I have two kids from the past that is not his but he loves them as if they were his. But the problem is that we have no life.

Ever since we got married, he is very controlling. In 5 years, he has hit me 4 times.

Once we have got married, everything changed. I no longer have a car because he thinks I do not need one. I am not allowed to work. He dose not won’t me to have anything to do with my family, see them or phone them unless it is my mother.

Me and my kids stay in the house all the time. We never get to go any where unless it is to shop for food at the store.

He is very strict. He checks my phone call records to make sure that I am not taking to anyone that I am not suppose to be talking to.

He tells me when to cook, when to wash, when to sleep, and what to wear. I have to wear long skirts. I am not allowed to wear pants.

My husband works 15 hours a day, while me and the kids are stuck in the house because he demands I must obey him. I am not allowed to have any friends.

No matter what I say or do he never trusts me. And I am below him. No matter what I say it is not important; no matter what I need, it is not Important to him. But everything he need or wants he gets and everything must be about him.

I am a good American women. His food is cooked everyday when he gets home, the house is cleaned very well everyday. I am a good house wife and I obey his every command.

I am crying as I write this e-mail because I am being abused by strictness and there is nothing I feel that I can do because I no longer have a job to support my kids. I have no family that will take me and my kids in if I leave.

I have no car. Before marriage, I had a job, I had a car and I supported my kids. He has taken everything away from me including my self-confidence.

I feel useless to myself and my kids. I have no outside life, friends, family, support, or help. I am always depressed and crying, never happy always sad.

Before I was a person who always smiled; no matter what, I could over come it. I was a happy person and loving no matter what. I’m still loving; I will help anyone, give them my last penny and the shirt off my back. I have a good heart and I am a good wife. I do not drink, club or ever done drugs because I came from a good family. He has taken everything from me and still demands more, I have nothing more to give and I feel so sad and useless because I can’t help myself.

I cry day and night asking god why me. I am a good person what have I done to be punished like this. All I want to do is take my kids to the park, out to eat, to the beach, have family, friends or just some one to make me feel like I am needed other than cooking and cleaning.

Can some one please help me. I am to young for this and the outside world is passing by while me and my kids life is inside the house only. I am drowning in my own tears with no way out and I can’t take it anymore. I want my kids to have a life while they are young.

Any feminist who supports this “religion” is a fraud.

Hilarity

Posted by Godefroi on February 11, 2008

From the “Beautiful Irony” department

via Fox News.

Two weeks before Yara, an American businesswoman, was arrested by Saudi Arabia’s religious police for sitting with a male colleague at Starbucks, she said she strolled past the very same cafe with another businessman: Neil Bush.

Bush, President George W. Bush’s younger brother and CEO of the education software company Ignite!, was in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, speaking at an economic forum hosted by King Abdullah for hundreds of influential business leaders.

Yara, who does not want her last name revealed because of safety concerns, is a managing partner at a Saudi financial company. She went to hear Bush speak, and she said she invited him later to tour her company’s offices, to give him a sense of what life was really like for women living in the capital.

“I was boasting about Riyadh, telling him it doesn’t deserve its bad reputation,” she said. “I told him I never experienced any harassment. I’d had no trouble as a woman. It was business as usual.”

But on Monday, Yara learned that she had been wrong. She was thrown in jail, strip-searched, threatened and forced to sign false confessions by the kingdom’s “Mutaween” police.

Tee-hee!  :)

Contradictions

Posted by Godefroi on February 4, 2008

PICKTHAL: Say: O disbelievers!  I worship not that which ye worship; Nor worship ye that which I worship.  And I shall not worship that which ye worship. Nor will ye worship that which I worship. Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.

PICKTHAL: There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower.

No one leaves Islam,’ judge rules

© 2008 WorldNetDaily.com [excerpted - GdB]

No one ever leaves Islam, according to a judge in Egypt who has cited Islamic religious law in rejecting a request from a Muslim convert to Christianity to be allowed to change his religious affiliation on his national identification card.

In a decision that forecasts more and more decisions being based on Shari’a, Islam’s religious law, Judge Muhammad Husseini has concluded it violates the law for a Muslim to leave Islam.

According to a report from Compass Direct News, the judge found that the convert, Muhammad Hegazy, “can believe whatever he wants in his heart [this is what the apologists say too...they conveniently omit part 2], but on paper he can’t convert.”

The report said Husseini cited Article II of the Egyptian constitution, making Islamic religious law the “source” of Egyptian secular law, as the basis for his conclusion.  [Let's be perfectly clear here - the ruling that a person may not leave Islam is based on Islamic Law.  Anyone proclaiming the contrary is lying.]

Since Islam is the “final” and “most complete” religion, Muslims already have full freedom of religion and are not allowed to return to the “less complete” Christianity or Judaism, the ruling said. [The scary thing is that he doesn't appear to see the hyprocrisy here]

In the case of a father of a Christian family converting to Islam, his minor children are forced to follow suit: The mother’s custody rights - a well established legal principle - are ignored in this case, as children, according to typical court rulings, are supposed to follow the ‘better (or ‘more noble’) of the two religions,’” the group said.

Freedom of religion doesn’t mean getting in and out of Islam to another religion, but only means that each person is free to practice his own religious rites , and not playing games with Islam or contradicting Shari’a law [which means, you can practice your "own religious rites" as long as they don't contradict Shari'a...which means as long as you're a Muslim],” the website said the judge concluded.

“If you get caught going to a church while your religion on your ID is Muslim, that could get you arrested, questioned and tortured,” the commentary said. “The latest victim was a 27-year-old woman, Mrs. Sherreen, mother of two children from Alexandria, Egypt. She died at the police station on Jan. 3, 2008, after five hours of torture for refusing to renounce her Christian faith and come back to Islam.”

The website noted in [our ally, Israel's friend, MODERATE] Egypt, children of parents with Muslim IDs automatically are Muslims, and they are required to follow mandatory Islamic indoctrination classes, and Muslims cannot marry non-Muslims.

The website also noted according to multiple media reports, Hegazy’s father issued a statement that, “when I’ll meet my son, I will discuss with him the reasons and circumstances that ‘forced’ him to leave Islam [because, obviously, no one would voluntarily do so], and will offer him the opportunity to come back to Islam, but in case he refuses, I will kill him immediately.

“The major issue for me was love. Islam wasn’t promoting love as Christianity did,” he [Hegazy] said.

As a result of his conversion he’s reported being arrested and tortured several times, but it’s opened wide the eyes of observers, the Apes and Pigs website said.

“Muhammad Hegazy’s case dynamited the Islamic mountain of lies, propaganda and false pride,” the commentary said. “Not only in Egypt, but all over the Arab world. Exposed to the world [was] the deception of the Islamic governments, Egypt in particular … [of] ‘no compulsion in religion.’”

Compass also reported that at least partly because of the case, lawyers in Egypt now are trying to force the government to outlaw conversion from Islam in secular law as well as religious law[because, as stated above, the secular constitution gets its 'legitimacy' from Islamic Law]

A report from the Coalition for the Defense of Human Rights concluded Coptic Christians in Egypt have been harassed, tortured and killed by Muslims for 1,400 years.

“They have been subjected to all kinds of hate crimes including, the abduction of young Coptic girls, the killing of Coptic women and children and the destruction of their places of worship,” the report said.

There is so much BS out there about Christian fascists plotting to impose a Christian theocracy in the U.S. Where is the outrage over the theocrats around the world that are ACTUALLY DOING it?

Reminder

Posted by Godefroi on February 1, 2008

The VAST majority of the foreign funding for Middle East Studies programs in the Universities in American comes from Saudi Arabia.  Our great friend and ally in the WOT, Saudi Arabia.

This is just a reminder of what the official education ministry there teaches their children (all taken from official Saudi textbooks).

FIRST GRADE
” Every religion other than Islam is false.”

“Fill in the blanks with the appropriate words (Islam, hellfire): Every religion other than ______________ is false. Whoever dies outside of Islam enters ____________.”

FOURTH GRADE
True belief means . . . that you hate the polytheists and infidels but do not treat them unjustly.”

“Unjustly”, of course, would anything that is not sanctioned by Sharia - GdB

FIFTH GRADE
“Whoever obeys the Prophet and accepts the oneness of God cannot maintain a loyal friendship with those who oppose God and His Prophet, even if they are his closest relatives.”

It is forbidden for a Muslim to be a loyal friend to someone who does not believe in God and His Prophet, or someone who fights the religion of Islam.”

“A Muslim, even if he lives far away, is your brother in religion. Someone who opposes God, even if he is your brother by family tie, is your enemy in religion.”

A New Solution

Posted by Godefroi on January 25, 2008

The “Palestinians” have blown a (big) hole in the wall separating Gaza from Egypt.

One has to wonder why Egypt left it there when they took control of the border after Israel’s unilateral withdrawal back in 2005, doesn’t one?  Perhaps Mubarak is just as concerned about letting loose the rapacious Hamas as Israel is.  Or, could it be that by NOT keeping Gazans ‘trapped’, they (that is, the Palestinian leadership in particular, and the Arab leadership in general) would lose all the political and emotional appeal that is used incessantly against Israel for her  policies?  Then again, maybe it was a gesture of good will, showing the world that Egypt was just as serious about stopping the flood of weapons into Gaza as other peace-loving countries (Tunnels?  What tunnels?)  Who knows.

Maybe, if Hamas wasn’t creating and staging the crisis of shortages in Gaza, the illegal border eruption disruption wouldn’t have occurred.  Among the treacherous things they have done to their own neighbors are (thanks to Mere Rhetoric):

So the Egyptian “border guards” stand by while hundreds of thousands of Palestinians flood across the border to get food, fuel, and (of course) cigarettes (No guns or bombs, I’m certain).  Til today, that is.  Today Mubarak has deployed troops to push back the tide of his fellow Arabs making their shopping trips into Egypt.  Hamas is having none of that, so they knocked down another section of wall.  Egypt is supposedly going to close the border again - anyone out there want to wager on the success of attempting to secure that border?

I have an idea.  How about Israel officially gives Gaza BACK to Egypt.  Gaza is supposedly “occupied” territory, right?  Well, if Israel is occupying, who actually owns it?  Certainly not the ”Palestinians” - there has never been a nation called Palestine, or a Palestinian People.  The only other nation to assume any kind of control in Gaza since WW1 is Egypt, so it must be that Israel is occupying Egypt’s territory.  Excellent – move out! Egypt, the bastards are all yours.

So much for a “Palestinian State”…and good riddance.

UPDATE:  Doh!  Apparently someone in Israel already thought of this - or at least something like it.  (Nod: Jihad Watch)

More deceptions from Muslim advisor regarding Flight 93 mosque

Posted by Godefroi on January 24, 2008

Nasser Rabbat, a Syrian professor of Islamic architecture at MIT, told the Park Service not to worry about the giant Mecca oriented crescent at the center of the Flight 93 Memorial. He said that since it does not point quite exactly to Mecca (it is off by 1.8°) it can’t be considered a proper mihrab (the central feature around which every mosque is built).

Liar. Many of the most famous mihrabs face as much as 20 or 30 degrees off of Mecca.

Here is another Rabbat deception:

Mosques are never in the shape of a crescent or a circle. This defeats the purpose of lining up the worshipers parallel to the Qibla wall (Mecca orientation), which usually translates into a rectangular shape, or sometimes a square. [From the White Paper released by the Memorial Project in August 2007.]

It is true that most mosques are rectangular, the more clearly to mark the direction to Mecca, but this is certainly not a requirement, given that the two most religiously significant sites in Islam are round mosques. Significant site #1 is the Sacred Mosque in Mecca:

Second most significant is the Mosque of Omar, also called the Dome of the Rock, on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, from which point Muhammad supposedly ascended into heaven:

Perhaps because of the prominence of these precedents, a small but significant number of mosques around the world follow the round model.

There is the Tun Abdul Aziz mosque built in Malaysia in 1975, referred to colloquially as the “Masjid Bulat,” or “round mosque.”

There is the new 5,000 person Arafat Mosque in Nigeria, which the architect claims is “the only round mosque in Africa,” but he is wrong. Another round mosque, Al Nileen, sits at the confluence of Blue and White Nile rivers in Khartoum:

[From Google Earth. Look up "alnileen mosque".]

Africa is also home to some older round mosques. Here is a round mosque from the Ivory coast. Similar mosques have also been found in Sierra Leone.

Here is a modern Russian mosque, laid out in shape of an eight point star.

There is even a famous round mosque right in the heart of the EU, at the northwest corner of the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels.

There is a round mosque in Kuwait, a round mosque in Kadavu India, and probably many more.

At the Islamic architecture website Archnet, a Muslim architect (not a native English writer) explains the problem with round mosques:

… a circular mosque can not function well because a mousqe should have an oriantation to kibla and as we all know that a circle does not have an orientation, How can we know the kibla wall if it is a circle ?

This problem does not afflict Paul Murdoch’s mosque design for the Flight 93 memorial because Murdoch’s giant crescent does create an orientation. Face into the crescent to face Mecca, just as with a smaller size mihrab.

Geometrically, Murdoch’s Crescent of Embrace is just a gigantic Islamic prayer rug:

A Muslim prayer rug is a two dimensional mihrab, laid out to face Mecca, just as the Crescent of Embrace is.

Notice that to a person looking into the Flight 93 crescent, the irregularity of the outer arc of the crescent is not visible. The radial arbors are all behind the double row of red maples that line the walkway. The ends of the crescent are also well defined by the end of the walkway of red maples at the bottom and the end of the thousand foot long, fifty foot tall Entry Portal Wall on top. This is a perfectly comprehensible and recognizable Mecca direction indicator.

Rabbat’s comments to the Park Service do not even pretend to be objective. He lists “talking points” in defense of the crescent design without ever even pretending to weigh the merits of the case against the design.

Most obviously, Rabbat never considers the almost exact Mecca orientation of the giant crescent as a grounds for concern, but limits his remarks to possible excuses for not worrying about this obviously worrisome fact. The same for all of his other talking points. He only even considers ways to absolve the crescent design.

In short, Rabbat is as overtly biased as he could possibly be, yet the Park Service has no qualms about this overt bias. Rabbat gives them the excuses for unconcern that they want and they eagerly embrace him. The Park Service investigation into warnings of an enemy plot was a total fraud.
