A Defending Crusader…

The best defense is to be good and offensive…or something like that.

Meaningless

A once-respected award for humanitarianism has now lost all meaning.

Nobel Peace Prize Is Awarded to President Obama

Oct. 9 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” the Nobel Committee said.

Three former U.S. Presidents have won the Nobel Peace Prize.  Jimmy Carter won this prize after more than a decade of international activism, misguided though it may have been.  Woodrow Wilson for creating the League of Nations (at least he had an accomplishment).  Teddy Roosevelt after he negotiated the end of the Russo-Japanese War (again, something actually accomplished).

One has to wonder if Jagland’s affiliation with Social Democrats had any bearing on this.  Hmmm.

What has Obama actually DONE to win this prize?

“The Nobel Committee has in particular looked at Obama’s vision and work toward a world without atomic weapons,” Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the five-member Nobel committee said in an interview broadcast on Norway’s TV2 today. “Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics.”

In short, he’s done NOTHING.  He’s made a few speeches - WOW – which as of yet have accomplished nothing.  Even the nuclear arsenal over which he has command is still undiminished.

And the vaunted “vision and work” and “extraordinary efforts”?  It’s all occurred since he took office less than 9 months ago.

Pitiful.  Pathetic.  Worthless.  Meaningless.

Update: K. Carpenter shows us how far back this actually goes.  Not only was Obama nominated LESS THAN TWO WEEKS into office, but the nomination invitations were sent out way back in September of 2008.  Good Grief!

Update 2: Jim Geraghty weighs in

Let Me Be Clear: We Must Credit Obama For His Accomplishments

There are no longer any U.S. forces in Iraq; the war there is over.

Afghanistan is finally stabilized, with the populace reassured and President Karzai’s public trust reinvigorated by free and fair elections.

Israelis and Palestinians are finally working together to build a lasting peace.

Through our forthright and clear denunciation of brutality, the Iranian protesters have had their fraudulent election canceled and true democracy is celebrated by every young man and young woman in the streets of Tehran.

The Guantanamo Bay prison is closed.

Through our diplomatic nudging, China has made great strides in its treatment of dissent, and the Dalai Lama is recognized by every world leader as a great man of wisdom.

Eastern Europeans in places like Poland and the Czech Republic sleep easily, no longer worried about the nefarious ambitions of the Russian bear.

A crisis in Honduras has been averted through the measured, deliberate effort of the administration.

No one in Asia worries about North Korean missiles any longer.

Pakistan is stabilized, and their citizens are reaching out to India in places like Mumbai.

In Egypt, after Obama’s speech, the government has never spent more time paying attention to dissenters like the Muslim Brotherhood.

Finally, the potential chaos from a global recession has been averted, as the U.S. economy has come roaring back to lead the world to new prosperity.

Come on, folks. With a record like that, Obama was a shoo-in.

Heh!
